Born in Angelica April 1, 1857, all of his 64 years of life was spent in Angelica; died May 30, 1921. Early in life he learned the trade of painter and paper hanger and there is hardly a house or building in town that he has not at some time either painted or papered or furnished the same for. A few years a go he began selling paper and pains and his business grew so rapidly he rented the J.T. Brown Store on West Main Street and added a second hand furniture business. Mr. Evans was born in the town of Angelica, November 12, 1856, making his age 60 years, 7 months and 18 days. When a small child he with his parents, Jesse and Harriet Evans, moved to West Almond where he spent the remainder of his life. On December 31, 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Evans of Avoca, who with three brothers, Henry of West Almond, Daniel of Angelica, and Warren of New Mexico, are the only surviving members of his immediate family. Lot 158. EVANS, Mrs. CLARISSA BURBANK Mrs. Clarissa L. Evans, 81, died September 13, 1968. She was a former resident of Angelica. Born in Springfield, Pa., Dec. 6, 1886, she was a daughter of Leverett and Louise Barrett Burbank. Following the death of her husband, Harvey Evans, in 1962, Mrs. Evans had made her home with a son, Daniel Evans, of the Dansville address. Survivors include another son, Wilfred Evans of Gowanda; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothea Cross of Friendship, and Mrs. Lois Ferguson of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Edgar Burbank of the Town of West Almond; and 13 grandchildren. Burial in Until the Day Dawn Cemetery, Angelica. Lot 167. EVANS, CORNELIA SCHOLES Mrs. Cornelia Evans, wife of David C. Evans of West Main Street, died at her home about January 20th, 1952 following an illness of three months. Mrs. Evans was born in Angelica on July 3rd, 1877, and was the elder of two daughters making up the family of Thomas A. and Caroline Scholes. Married David C. Evans on February 20th, 1901. Survivors: son, Merle Evans of Houghton and one daughter, Donna, Mrs. Robert Moore, of Nashville, Tenn. Mrs. Evans was a lifelong member of the Angelica Methodist Church. Other immediate survivors include her sister, Mrs. Charles Morton of Angelica; three grandchildren, Miss Sandra and Miss Geraldine Evans of Houghton and David Paul Moore of Nashville, and a number of nieces and nephews. Lot 795. EVANS, DANIEL SYLVESTER Daniel Evens was born in Springwater, N.Y., September 12, 1849, son of Jesse and Harriet Evans; died May 15, 1923. Mr. Evens' parents moved to West Almond in 1849 with their infant son. Mr. Evens spent his entire life in Allegany County, from his first year. Farmer. Married Emma Maria Wafler in 1872. Survivors: widow; children: David, Harry, Harvey, Viola, (deceased) Nora,and Clair Evans, all of whom live in the vicinity of Angelica. Lot 169. EVANS, DAVID CLARENCE Born at Angelica on March 19, 1875, the eldest son of Daniel and Emma Wafler Evans. During his early life he taught a few years in country school, after which he took a business course at Oberlin Business College, Oberlin, Ohio. In February, 1901, Mr. Evans was married to Miss Cornelia Scholes. Mr. Evans became a member of the Methodist Church when a boy and was always a regular attendant. He had held the offices of Official Board Member, Benevolent Treasurer and Superintendent of the Sunday School. On retirement in 1945, Mr. and Mrs. Evans moved to the Village of Angelica, where he remained until the death of his wife in January, 1952. Survivors: one son, Merle Evans of Redlands, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Donna Moore of Arlington, Calif.; two granddaughters, Sandra and Geraldine Evans; one grandson, David Moore; two brothers, Harvey Evans of North Collins and Clair Evans of Angelica, and one sister, Miss Nora Evans of Angelica. Interment was in Until the Day Dawn" Cemetery, Angelica. Lot 795. EVANS, EMMA MARIA WAFLER Born May 15, 1854, in this village of David and Mary Ann Rohr Wafler; died Mar. 3, 1932. On Dec. 16, 1873, she married Daniel S. Evans of West Almond. Six children were born from this union. Viola, the oldest daughter died in 1899 at the age of 16 years. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Nora Evans of New York City; four sons, Harvey Evans of Friendship, Harry of Belmont, David and Clair, both of Angelica Lot 169. EVANS, Mrs. GRACE HOOKER Grace H. Evans, 95, of 24 Park Circle, died August 2, 1994 in the Wellsville Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was born September 24, 1898 in Angelica, the daughter of Sidney R. and Dora Otte Hooker. On November 19, 1919 in Olean, she was married to Clair M. Evans, who died February 11, 1981. She was a life-long resident of Angelica, a member of the Angelica United Methodist Church and a member and past patron of the Angelica Chapter #231 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by a son, Jack Evans of Angelica; a daughter, Mrs. Peter Gibbore, of Endicott; four grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; two brothers, Manton Hooker of Angelica and Roger Hooker of Allegany; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Thomas Evans; two sisters, Pearl Bliss and Idah Britton and two brothers, Ernest and Kenneth Hooker. Lot 923. EVANS, HARRIET GRISWOLD Daughter of Samuel and Clarissa Pettingill Griswold; born in the town of West Almond, August 23, 1831, and died Sept. 18, 1910 in the 80th year of her age. She was married to Jesse Evans in 1848, and with him moved back to West Almond in 1850; husband died in 1879. During most of her later years of her life she made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Evans in West Almond. Survivors: children, Daniel, Charles, Warren, and Henry. Lot 158. EVANS, HARRY DANIEL Harry D. Evans died at his home August 3, 1956. Born October 3, 1877, in Angelica, he was the son of Daniel and Emma Wafler Evans. Mr. Evans was married to Miss Myrtle Kelly, who died in 1926. His second wife, Mrs. Myrtle Aylor Evans, survives. Other survivors include one step-daughter, Mrs. Keith Harris, Belmont; three step-grandchildren; one sister, Miss Nora Evans, Angelica; three brothers, David Evans, Rushford, Harvey Evans, North Collins, and Clair Evans, Angelica. Mr. Evans was a member of the Belmont Lodge, 474 F, and A.M., Belmont I.O.O.F., Belmont Conservation Club. Burial was in Angelica Cemetery. Lot 169. EVANS, HARVEY Harvey Evans died July 21, 1962. He was a native of Angelica, where he was born on October 11, 1881 to Daniel and Emma Wafler Evans. Mr. Evans had spent most of his life in Friendship, where he was a farmer. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Clarissa Burbank Evans; two sons, the Rev. A. Daniel Evans, Richford, N.Y., and Wilfred Evans; two daughters, Mrs. Neil Cross, Friendship, and Mrs. Harry Ferguson, North Collins; a brother, Clair Evans, Angelica; a sister, Miss Nora Evans, Angelica; 12 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Lot 167. EVANS, HENRY Henry W. Evans, life long resident of West Almond, died Thursday, May 12, 1955, in Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, from injuries sustained in an auto accident May 1st. He was born in West Almond August 14, 1874 of Jesse and Harriet Evans. He taught school for about 35 years in this vicinity and for a number of years was a contractor, painter and decorator. Surviving are four nephews, Harry Evans, Harvey Evans, Clair Evans and David Evans. Burial was in Angelica cemetery. Lot 158. EVANS, JESSE WOOD (1823-1879) Born Feb. 17, 1823, of Luther and Polly Merriman Evans, at Livonia, N.Y. Married Harriet Griswold Nov. 11, 1848. At age, 41 years he enlisted at Hornellsville to serve in the Civil War; mustered in as private, Co. I, 189th N.Y. Infantry, October 3, 1864; mustered out with Company, May 30, 1865, near Washington, D.C. After the war he resumed his occupation as farmer in West Almond. Died May, 31, 1879. Children: Daniel, Mary, Charles, Warren, and Henry. Survivors: widow; four sons. Lot 158. EVANS, Mrs. MYRTLE ROBERTS Mrs. Myrtle L. Evans, Belmont, died June 26, 1960. She was born on June 23, 1896, at Belmont, the daughter of Elmer and Elma Snyder Roberts. She had served as village librarian for the past thirty years. The deceased was twice married, first to Forrest D. Aylor, and then to Harry D. Evans, both of whom preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Keith Harris of Belmont; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Brandes, and Mrs. Matt Tierney, both of Bradford, Pa., and three grandchildren. Burial was in Forest Hills Cemetery, Belmont. EVANS, Mrs MYRTLE KELLY Myrtle Kelly Evans was born in Pittsburgh, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kelly; died July 21,1926 as a result of a car accident. Married Harry D. Evans of Angelica June 17, 1906. In October 1916, a son was born to them, but lived only a few hours. A year ago Mr. and Mrs. Evans moved to Binghamton where Mr. Evans is foreman of the Griffin-Penham Building Co. It was here the accident occurred. Mrs. Evans is survived by her husband, her mother, Mrs. Chas. Pache of Buffalo, one sister, Mrs. Harry Windish, also of Buffalo, and her grandmother who lives in Peamsville, Canada. Lot 169. EVANS, MISS NORA Born in Angelica on Jan. 15, 1888, daughter of Daniel and Emma Wafler Evans; died Nov. 28, 1984. Miss Evans was a graduate of Wilsonian High School in Angelica, the Geneseo Normal School and Columbia University. She had taught in New York and New Jersey school systems, and had been employed for many years as a pharmacist and laboratory technician at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. Miss Evans was a lifelong member of the first United Methodist Church of Angelica. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Grace C. Evans of Angelica, and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Until the Day Dawn Cemetery, Angelica. Lot 169. EVANS, Mrs. SARAH EVANS Born in Angelica July 3, 1861, daughter of Heman and Lucy Angeline Brewer Evans; died October 27, 1923 in West Almond. Married December 31, 1882 to Charles Evans of West Almond, where she has always made her home. She spent many years of her young life in caring for his aged mother and aunt and her mother. She joined the M.E. Church at Angelica in 1892 and has since been a consistent member. Survivors: Levi of Haskinville, Frank of Binghampton, Edward of Illinois, and Charles of South Dakota, also a nephew, Cecil Allard of Rochester. Burial in Angelica. Lot 158. EVANS, THOMAS C. Thomas C. Evans, son of Jack and Eileen Evans, died Nov. 12, 1984 at Buffalo General Hospital as the result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident Monday in Wellsville. He was a native and life resident of Wellsville and a graduate of Wellsville High School. He was active in the family roller skating business, having formerly served as Manager of the Funland Coliseum Skating Center in Ceres. He was employed at the Wellsville Daily Reporter as coordinator of the graphic arts department. Survivors: parents, paternal grandmother, Grace Evans of Angelica; maternal grandmother, Regis Corbin Ripley of Wellsville; two brothers, Joel and Daniel of Wellsville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Mr. Evans was a graduate of Alfred Agriculture and Technical College, class of 1915. He was a member of the Angelica United Methodist Church, where he had served on various commissions. He was also a former member and past Master of the Angelica Grange 1087; member of the Angelica Sunset Club; Angelica Booster Citizens; had served as Town Justice for 36 years and as Village Justice for 16 years. He had also served as treasurer of the Allegany County Agricultural Society for several years. He was a former member of the advisory board of the First Trust Union Bank of Angelica. Survivors: widow; daughter, Mrs. Peter (Margaret) Gibbore of Endicott, N.Y.; a son, Jack C. Evans of Wellsville; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild, a sister, Miss Nora Evans of Angelica; and several nieces and nephews. Lot 923. EVANS, VIOLA JANE Born November 24, 1883, to Daniel and Emma Wafler Evans; died Nov. 3, 1899. She was sixteen years and six days old. About two months ago she was taken slightly ill, but nothing serious was anticipated; but when a rapid decline set in, and a counsel of physicians was held, it was decided that quick consumption had wrought its work so well that there was no hope for recovery. She was confined to her bed but two weeks, and suffered very little, a fact which was a comfort to her loved ones. Miss Evans united with the M.E. church in 1896, and since has been a sweet spirited, devoted Christian. She was a member of Mrs. E.I. Weaver's Sunday School class. Beloved by all who knew her, in her sickness, she was surrounded by many friends who hoped in vain for her return to health. Lot 169. Her home thereafter was with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hammond, until her marriage on Nov. 11, 1874, to Henry T. Green. To them 7 children were born. Born in West Almond on July 15, 1882, the son of Henry and Henrietta Hammond Green, and had lived many years in Angelica. Died 1960, aged 78. His wife, the former Martha Bingham, died last year. Past Master of the Masonic Lodge and was a member of Angelica Methodist Church. Survivors: son, Alvin of Williamsville, sisters, Mrs. Frank Smith of Wellsville, Mrs. Jennie Charles of Angelica; Mrs. Harry White of Brandon, Fla., and Miss Lulu Green of Wellsville; several nieces and nephews. Burial in Angelica. GREEN, JUDGE JAMES S. (1823-1882) Died September 21, 1882, aged 59 years, 9 months and 16 days. Born Jerusalem Yates County, December 3, 1823. At an early age he removed with his parents to Naples, Ontario County, from which place he came to Angelica on the 8th of August, 1846, where he resided these last 36 years of his life. Admitted to the bar in 1852. On Jan. 10, 1860 married Miss Helen M. Smith, of Canisteo, who with an only daughter, survive him. Judge and Surrogate of Allegany County. Lot 722. GREEN, JOEL R. Gregory; three sisters, Miss Maria Blickwede, Miss Marret Blickwede and Mrs. L. B. Elliott of Rochester, N.Y.; one brother George H. Blickwede of New York.
