Daniel C. Grunder Succumbs

Former Superintendent Of Poor in Allegany County Dies Thursday.

Friendship, June 10-- Daniel Chapman Grunder, eighty-seven years old, former county superintendent of poor of Allegany County, passed away Thursday evening at six o'clock after an illness of several years.

Mr. Grunder for many years was county superintendent of poor and later was superintendent of the County Alms House in Angelica. He went out of office in 1920 and moved to Friendship where he had since resided.

He was a member of Angelica Methodist Episcopal Church and was affiliated with Melrose Lodge, No. 818, F. & A. M., Angelica; Belfast Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; DeMalay Commandery, Hornell, Ismailla Temple, Buffalo, and Friendship Old Timers Association.

He is survived by one son, Walter L. Chapman, Angelica. His widow, Mrs. Catherine McCarthy Chapman, passed away four years ago.

Funeral services will be held at the home at two-thirty o'clock Sunday afternoon. The Rev. Clifford A. Scrimshaw, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church, will officiate. The Masonic Lodge will be in charge of the committal services.

Funeral Daniel Grunder Is Held.

Friendship, June 13 -- Funeral services for Daniel Chapman Grunder, retired resident of Friendship, for thirty-five years superintendent of the poor of Allegany County, at Angelica were held at his late residence on East Main Street, Sunday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock. The Rev. Clifford A. Scrimshaw, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church, officiated. Burial was in the Angelica Cemetery, and committal service was under the auspices of the Masonic Fraternity.

Six county dignitaries, contemporaries of Mr. Grunder, acting as honorary pallbearers were, Judge Charles H. Brown, of Belmont, Mayor Harmon A. Corbin, Friendship, County Treasurer, D. Sherman Burdick of Alfred, Justice Delbert P. Snyder, Cuba, Charles Ricker, Fillmore and Horace G. Prindle, Friendship.

Active pallbearers, members of the Masonic fraternity were William H. Hall, Angelica, Everett I. Weaver, Angelica, Dr. Frank S. Burlingame, Benjamin J. Rice and Harry L. Blossom of Friendship.
